TMRW Sports, co-founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley, has unveiled its latest round of funding, marking a significant milestone for the sports, media, and entertainment company.
TMRW Sports has attracted a notable lineup of investors including Shaquille O’Neal, Dwyane Wade, Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala, Jayson Tatum, and Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s 35V. According to Bloomberg, the latest funding round was spearheaded by Dynasty Equity Partners and Connect Ventures, resulting in a valuation of $500 million for TMRW Sports.
“Our strategy has always been to collaborate with top-tier management teams in sports with widespread appeal,” stated K. Don Cornwell, co-founder of Dynasty Equity Partners, emphasising TMRW's innovative application of intellectual property to engage both existing and new fans. “Their commitment to accessibility and diversity in sports aligns perfectly with our values.”
Michael Blank, head of consumer investments at Connect Ventures, highlighted that the funding will facilitate expansion into new sports formats, leagues, territories, and media ventures, with potential plans to venture into women’s golf.
TMRW Sports’ upcoming flagship project, in collaboration with the PGA Tour, is TGL, set to debut in January 2025. TGL promises a pioneering fusion of golf and technology, featuring 18 players competing in stadium-style matches over 18 holes. This format aims to bring the intensity and immersive experience of team sports to traditional golf settings.
Tiger Woods, expressing enthusiasm for the venture, emphasised the transformative potential of blending golf with modern sports elements. “This innovation will allow fans to witness every moment of the action up close, similar to the experience in football or basketball arenas,” Woods remarked during the league’s announcement.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and represents a pivotal step towards realising TMRW Sports’ vision of redefining sports entertainment through innovation and inclusivity.
