MotoGP has renewed its strategic partnership with Sportian, the sports technology division of Globant, to bolster its global anti-piracy and digital rights enforcement efforts. The extended collaboration marks a continued commitment by Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, to protecting its intellectual property and broadcast value amid escalating piracy threats across international markets.
Originally launched in 2022, the partnership has centred on deploying advanced digital tools to detect, track, and take down illegal streaming and unauthorised content distribution. Over the past two years, Sportian’s technology has played a key role in monitoring social media, web platforms, and peer-to-peer networks in real time, helping Dorna safeguard its media rights and ensure legitimate content delivery to fans worldwide.
Under the renewed agreement, Sportian will expand its scope of work to include more advanced machine learning models, real-time analytics, and a broader global monitoring network. The partnership will also strengthen collaboration between MotoGP and local authorities, rights holders, and digital platforms to streamline the takedown process and enforce content protections across emerging and high-risk markets.
“This partnership ensures that fans can access MotoGP through the official and legal channels that fund the continued growth of the sport,” said Manel Arroyo, Chief Commercial Officer at Dorna Sports. “Piracy undermines the value of our broadcast partnerships and compromises the experience for both rights holders and fans.”
The renewal comes at a time when sports piracy continues to evolve rapidly, fuelled by improvements in illegal streaming technologies and the growing demand for free, unauthorised access to premium live content. According to a recent report by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), illegal streaming costs sports rights holders and broadcasters billions in lost revenue annually, with motorsport among the most impacted sectors due to its global calendar and fan base.
For MotoGP, the implications are commercial as well as operational. The series relies heavily on broadcast rights for revenue and global reach, making the integrity of its digital ecosystem essential to its business model. The Sportian partnership plays a direct role in preserving the commercial value of those rights, particularly in a fragmented digital landscape where piracy is becoming increasingly decentralised and harder to police.
