Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) has announced an expanded strategic partnership with KPMG LLP, making the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm the Official Consulting & Advisory Partner of MSE. This multi-year collaboration will leverage KPMG’s expertise in innovation and technology to enhance fan experiences, modernize venue operations, and drive community revitalization across MSE’s entire portfolio.
KPMG’s role will focus heavily on reimagining the fan experience at Capital One Arena, home to the NHL’s Washington Capitals and the NBA’s Washington Wizards. They will spearhead a comprehensive technology transformation, working to make the arena a cutting-edge hub for sports, entertainment, and business in the heart of Washington, D.C. This partnership also supports the expansion of MSE’s business and hospitality ventures in the city’s downtown area.
Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer at MSE, commented on the significance of this partnership: “This is a transformative moment for our organization. We are committed to making Capital One Arena an iconic sports and entertainment destination in the nation’s capital. KPMG’s unparalleled expertise in innovation will play a crucial role in enhancing the fan experience and boosting the cultural and economic landscape of downtown D.C.”
KPMG will design and implement a world-class technology platform, optimizing the in-arena experience for fans while also engaging those at home. The partnership will focus on streamlining fan interactions, improving operational efficiency, and creating unforgettable moments throughout the venue.
Shawn Quill, KPMG’s National Sports Industry Leader, emphasized the impact of technology on fan engagement: “The future of sports lies in creating unforgettable, tech-enhanced experiences that connect fans with the game and each other. Our expanded partnership with MSE is a unique opportunity to redefine the fan journey, using technology to deliver memorable experiences both in person and remotely.”
As part of this collaboration, KPMG will also take a leading role in Monumental’s media initiatives, including the development of a multi-year content series on Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) that will chronicle the transformation of Capital One Arena. This story will also be shared internationally through MSE’s NBA International Team Marketing partnership rights.
The partnership builds on the foundation laid in 2022 when MSE introduced the KPMG Ignition Center, the first-ever ‘business suite’ at Capital One Arena. The suite, outfitted with cutting-edge technology, serves as a year-round hub where KPMG and its clients can collaborate on business challenges, further highlighting the firm’s commitment to innovation in sports.
