In anticipation of this weekend's Monaco E-Prix, Formula E revealed the latest iteration of its cutting-edge race car, the GEN3 Evo, during an event on Thursday evening. The unveiling ceremony will coincide with a public demonstration of the vehicle by former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard on Saturday.
Set to debut in Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the GEN3 Evo boasts a host of groundbreaking technical advancements. Over the past year, Formula E and the FIA have collaborated on its development, with former racer Bruno Correia serving as the project's development driver.
With capabilities surpassing its predecessor, the GEN3, renowned as the world's first street racing car, the GEN3 Evo raises the bar in terms of performance, sustainability, and efficiency. Key enhancements include:
Acceleration: Achieving 0-60mph in a staggering 1.82 seconds (0-100kph in 1.86s), outpacing current Formula 1 cars by 30%.
Performance: Delivering an estimated 2% performance gain over the GEN3, translating to approximately 2 seconds faster qualifying laps on iconic circuits like Monaco.
Design: Featuring a robust, aerodynamic body kit designed to facilitate closer wheel-to-wheel racing.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD): Introducing AWD capability for the first time in Formula E, enhancing acceleration and control during key race moments.
These enhancements are tailored to foster faster and more thrilling racing encounters between drivers, promising increased on-track action for spectators.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds, speaking at the launch event, expressed enthusiasm for the car's remarkable performance, stating, "We all know that speed sells in our business... to have a message of 1.82s to 60mph, I think is an amazing headline for us."
In addition to its impressive speed, the GEN3 Evo continues Formula E's commitment to sustainability and innovation. It features regenerative braking, advanced software performance upgrades, and an electric motor boasting over 90% efficiency, making it the most efficient formula car ever.
Furthermore, the car's production process prioritises sustainability, with components sourced from suppliers adhering to ethical and sustainable mining standards. Formula E also maintains stringent environmental standards across its supply chain, achieving FIA 3* Environmental Accreditation certification.
The launch of the GEN3 Evo marks a significant milestone in Formula E's journey towards greener, faster, and more thrilling electric racing, setting the stage for an electrifying Season 11.
