Formula E has sealed a long-term agreement with Aggreko to deploy state-of-the-art sustainable technology at its events worldwide, aiding the series in its drive to achieve emissions reduction targets. Validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, Formula E aims to slash emissions by 45% across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2030, using a Season 5 (2019) baseline.
As an Official Provider for Formula E, Aggreko, in line with the series' net zero carbon status, will ensure events are powered by renewable energy sources such as biofuel generators, solar arrays, and cutting-edge battery technology.
To energise select races, Aggreko will furnish six 300kVA batteries to charge all Formula E cars, alongside various battery sizes to power the circuit at race venues. Each battery can charge four race cars simultaneously, equivalent to powering 84,000 mobile phones.
Backing these efforts are Stage V Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) powered generators, emitting 90% fewer CO2 emissions than diesel. In tandem, solar arrays trackside will aid in powering the batteries, maximising environmental benefits.
Given Formula E's street track setup for most of its 16 international races, Aggreko's temporary solutions ensure seamless race weekends. Aggreko's experts tailor bespoke plans for each race location, powering cars, hospitality areas, fan villages, and track infrastructure, prioritising efficiency and sustainability.
Aggreko's global team is poised to efficiently power races worldwide, underscoring the partnership's alignment with both companies' commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental impact mitigation.
David de Behr, Head of Sales at Aggreko Event Services, affirms, "Sustainability is integral to Aggreko's ethos, making it an ideal partner for the world's most sustainable motorsport series."
Tiziana di Gioia, Chief Revenue Officer at Formula E, echoes the sentiment, praising Aggreko's expertise in sustainable energy solutions and its pivotal role in delivering Formula E's unique events sustainably.
