The Atlas Group has completed the purchase of the former Premiership rugby club Worcester Warriors, according to a statement released on Tuesday. Led by former Warriors CEO Jim O'Toole, Atlas had agreed to buy the club in February and was given until May 2 by administrators Begbies Traynor to get the deal done.
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and it remains unclear when the club will return to playing and in which division. In a statement, Atlas expressed their pleasure in confirming the sale and stated that they looked forward to realizing their vision for rugby, business, and the community at Sixways.
Just hours after the takeover was made official, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) confirmed that Wasps had applied to use Sixways for home games in the Championship next season.
The RFU stated that they will consult with local stakeholders before considering the request at the end of May. Similar deals for the use of Sixways by non-league side Worcester Raiders and Worcester Warriors women, previously agreed with Atlas, can now also be finalized.
