The Emirates Esports Federation, in collaboration with ITW Universe, has announced the launch of the E-Gaming League (EGL), an innovative esports competition set to debut in March 2025 in the UAE. Modelled after leading sports leagues like the NBA, EPL, and IPL, the EGL will introduce a franchise-based system with a player draft, set to revolutionize competitive gaming.
The league will feature six franchise teams competing across multiple game genres, including MOBA, FPS, Sports, and Racing. Its unique draft system—the first of its kind in esports—aims to ensure competitive balance and nurture new talent.
Global qualifiers will begin in early 2025, offering top amateur players the chance to join the draft and compete alongside international esports stars. This initiative further strengthens the UAE’s position as a global esports hub. His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakbout Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates Esports Federation, highlighted the league’s potential to unite publishers, players, organizers, and brands to shape the future of esports in the region.
Vivek Chandra, Director of ITW Universe, noted that the EGL will set a new global standard, positioning the UAE as a premier destination for esports talent and innovation. Saeed Ali Al-Tahir, General Secretary of the Federation, echoed this sentiment, while Nayeem Khan, Head of Gaming/Esports at ITW Universe, emphasized that the EGL will offer more than just a tournament—it will deliver a complete entertainment experience, featuring fan zones, community events, and live performances, bringing esports into mainstream sports entertainment.
With the global PC and gaming market generating $92 billion in revenue in 2023, the EGL aims to elevate esports by integrating proven sports league frameworks, creating a sustainable ecosystem for talent development and international competition.
This marks the start of an exciting new chapter, establishing the EGL as a marquee event on the global esports stage.
